Brad Cushman is the UALR Gallery Director/Curator, educator and a studio artist living in Little Rock, Arkansas. He received a B.A. in Studio Art from
College, Jacksonville, Illinois, and an M.F.A. in Painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
His solo exhibitions have featured paintings, polymer gravure etchings and mixed media works. In 2001, he was awarded the Grand award for the 4
4th Annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center (Juror - Allison Saar).
Cushman’s work has been exhibited at the Arkansas Art Center in several exhibitions including:
- 2007 - 50/50 Delta Exhibition Anniversary
- 2003 - 46th Annual Delta Exhibition
- 2001 - 44th Annual Delta Exhibition – Grand Award – Juror Allison Saar
- 1993 - 22nd Prints, Drawings and Photography Exhibition
- 1990 - 33rd Annual Delta Exhibition
He is currently represented at the Boswell Mourot Gallery in Little Rock.
His work has also been exhibited at UCA, Henderson State University, University of the Ozarks, UALR, and Gallery 26 in Little Rock and at 500X Gallery and Mighty Fine Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.
In 1989 he received a six-week summer study grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to study Post Modernism Theory at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Between 1999 and 2002, he participated in three out of five volumes of an artist collective project called INBOX organized by Amy Wilson in NYC. The following institutions purchased the project.

As gallery director and curator at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Cushman has curated a variety of exhibitions including:
- Taking Possession (2007) – featuring contemporary African-American artists; held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of Central High Desegregation.
- Stacking Order (2008) – site specific installations by Christine Lee and Chris Fennell.
- Form Follows Function or Does It? (2009) – contemporary crafts
- El Grito: The Cry for Independence (2010) – featuring work addressing issues of boarders and boundaries and the Mexican American Experience; held in conjunction with “Arkansas Celebrates Mexico, 2010.”
- Poetic Transformations (2012) – works by Alice Leora Briggs, Sylvie Rosenthal, Jacqueline Bishop, Holly Laws, Jennifer Anderson.
- Estamos Aqui (We Are Here) (2013) – a traveling exhibition from the UALR permanent collection, circulated by Exhibits USA/Mid America Arts Alliance, featuring 40 silkscreens from the “Series Project” printed and produced by Coronado Studios in Austin, Texas.
He curated the exhibition Face to Face: Artists’ Self Portraits from the Collection of Jackye and Curtis Finch, Jr. (2013) for the Arkansas Arts Center. The exhibition will travel to The Baker Museum of Art, Naples, Florida, Auburn University and tentatively scheduled for the Cummer Museum in Jacksonville, Florida.
He is the voice of Picture This on NPR in central Arkansas. His audio essays on art and design have been broadcast since 2005 and he can be seen hosting Inside Art, a television program produced on University TV.
